Our Tips on Properly Wearing Your Aligners

For your Invisalign treatment to be a success, it'll require a committed effort. We recommend following these tips and you'll be well on your way toward a straighter smile:

  • Wear each set of aligners for the exact number of days you are instructed.
  • Wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day as well.
  • Take out your aligners when you're eating or brushing your teeth.
  • Remove your trays starting from the back.
  • Don't leave your aligners sitting out for dogs to chew on.
  • Keep your aligners in their case when they aren't in your mouth so you don't lose or forget about them.
  • Use a straw or remove your aligners if you're going to drink anything besides water.
  • Keep your aligners away from any hot water or anything else hot.
  • Don't chew gum with your aligners in.
  • You should always brush after every meal so that food particles don't get trapped in your teeth by your aligners.
  • Use 'chewies' every day for 15 minutes to help the aligners move your teeth more effectively.
  • Use a nail file to smooth out any rough edges on the aligners if they're bothering you.
  • Don't throw away any of your aligners without checking with Dr. Heller.
  • Call your orthodontist in Laurel and Bethesda if an aligner is lost or broken.

Additional Advice for Our Laurel and Bethesda Invisalign

During your treatment, your teeth may begin to feel slightly loose. This may seem like a cause for alarm, but this is completely normal and it's just a sign that your teeth are shifting toward their desired positions. When the entire initial order of aligners is complete, in some cases, you may need to wear additional aligners in order to refine the final positioning of your teeth.
