Beyond the Impression: The Role Of 3D iTero Scanning

Heller Orthodontics has eliminated the need for messy, “goopy” impressions by utilizing the iTero® Element™ digital scanning system for higher precision and patient comfort.

A Better Way to Start

The old way of taking dental impressions involved trays filled with a cold, putty-like material. It was uncomfortable and often triggered a gag reflex. At our office, we use the iTero® Element™ scanner. This handheld wand captures thousands of frames per second to create a perfect 3D 1:1 replica of your teeth and gums. It is faster, cleaner, and significantly more accurate.

See Your Results Instantly

The most exciting part of digital scanning is the Outcome Simulator. Within minutes of scanning your mouth, we can show you a 3D rendering of what your finished smile will look like. This allows for a truly collaborative experience. You and Dr. Heller can discuss the “Heller Difference” while looking at your virtual transformation on a high-definition screen.

FAQ SECTION

Q: Does the 3D scanning process involve any radiation? The iTero® Element™ scanner uses optical imaging technology and does not emit any ionizing radiation. It is completely safe for patients of all ages, from toddlers to seniors. You can think of it like a high-speed camera taking a very detailed movie of your smile.

Q: How long does a full digital scan take? A typical scan of your entire mouth takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete. It’s a very relaxed process, and you can even take breaks if you need to. Our assistants are experts at making the process quick, so you can spend more time looking at your future smile and less time in the chair.

Q: If I’m getting Invisalign, is a digital scan required? Digital scans are the gold standard for Invisalign because they provide the most accurate data for your custom-fit aligners. This precision ensures your trays fit snugly and move your teeth exactly as planned. We’ll take the scan right here in our clinic, so there’s no need to visit multiple locations to get started.
