Your First Orthodontic Visit

Our Bethesda & Laurel Orthodontic Teams Welcome You!

We at Heller Orthodontics understand that visiting an orthodontist for the first time can cause some anxiety.  While we insist that there’s nothing to worry about since we’re an experienced provider of  Bethesda and Laurel Invisalign, braces, and other orthodontics, we realize that it’s only natural for a patient to be nervous. We want you to be completely comfortable when visiting us. We’ll do all we can to ease any worries. We’ll even be glad to go over what a typical first visit with us will be like so you’ll know what to expect.

Your Laurel and Bethesda Orthodontics Exam

During your first visit with us, you should plan to spend nearly an hour here. This will ensure that there won’t be any rush and that you’ll get enough time to ask any questions that you may have. When you arrive, you’ll first meet our receptionist or patient coordinator who will then ask for some information from you and then take you to see your Laurel and Bethesda orthodontist.

The procedure will begin by taking a set of regular photographs of your teeth. We’ll pair these with an examination of your teeth and jaws and recent x-rays, if you’ve had any. We’ll also ask questions about whether your jaws make any noise when your mouth is opening or closing or if you’re having any problems with your chewing or swallowing. We also need to know if you grind your teeth or snore. With all the information that we gather, we’ll be able to make a proper diagnosis and finalize your treatment plan.

After the Exam

When the exam is over, we’ll either tell you that your teeth and jaws are perfectly fine or we may recommend orthodontic treatment. Treatment may begin as soon as possible or it might just be best to wait until a later time. It all depends on the developmental stage of the teeth and the jaws. In many cases, we’ll actually just advise you to come back for periodic checkups until we determine that it’s the appropriate time to begin treatment. When the treatment plan is decided on, we’ll discuss what the treatment is, how long it will last, how much it will cost, and so on.

This is also the perfect time to ask us any questions that you may have. If you have questions about your orthodontic situation or our Laurel and Bethesda orthodontics in general, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We want to stress the importance of open communication; we always promise to be open and honest with you about your orthodontic situation and we hope that you’ll do the same for us as well. By working together, we can help you attain a more beautiful and healthy smile!
