As your home for high-quality Laurel and Bethesda orthodontics, including Invisalign, we at Heller Orthodontics want to do all that we can to make our patients’ orthodontic treatments proceed as smoothly as possible. That’s why we’re glad to give you this list of important tips for you to take into consideration when you’re undergoing our Laurel and Bethesda Invisalign treatment.

Remember to Floss Daily

While you’re probably aware of how important it is to brush your teeth after you eat, you might not be aware of the importance of flossing – and you certainly wouldn’t be alone! Food particles can easily get stuck between your teeth, which will become even more problematic for a patient wearing Invisalign as the aligners will trap this food against your teeth, accelerating the potential for dental problems, such as tooth decay. Remember to floss your teeth at least once every day to maintain your oral hygiene.

Wear Them at Least 22 Hours Every Day

It is important to keep them in except when eating or brushing.  You should wear them for at least 22 hours every day. The treatment will only be a success if you wear them consistently every day, They teeth will not move as intended if the aligners are not worn enough. At Heller Orthodontics we are here to encourage you but only you can make sure that you are compliant.

Keep Your Aligners in a Case When Not Using Them

One of the great things about our Laurel and Bethesda Invisalign is that it’s incredibly durable. However, it’s not indestructible! Leaving your aligners lying around and not in their case can be a bad idea. Many people have lost them by doing that, Some have accidentally thrown them away or more likely had them thrown away by others. It is also not uncommon to hear that  their family dog has damaged or destroyed their Invisalign aligners! Make sure to keep your aligners secure by keeping them in a case when you’re not wearing them. And keep the case away from you dog.

You Can Delay an Aligner Change for an Important Event

One crucial thing to note about Invisalign is that it’ll take some time getting used to it. You may notice that your speech is altered slightly the first few days. Most likely this will be more noticeable to you than to others. If you are scheduled  be making a presentation during the first day or two of aligner wear, or when you are due to move on to the next stage, you may want to delay that change until after. This will allow you to speak to your audience in comfort and without fear that your speech will be distorted in any way. The flexibility and convenience of Invisalign makes it ideal for any lifestyle.

Keep Your Old Aligners when You Finish Wearing Them!

Thoroughly clean and store your previously worn aligners and bring the most recently worn stage to your Heller Orthodontics Invisalign checkup. Should your current stage be damaged or lost, often you will need to revert to the previous stage until a replacement can be ordered. In some cases it may be necessary to move back a few stages if some of the teeth are not fully tracking in the aligners. This often happens when the aligners are being worn less than recommended. The best way for you treatment to stay on track is to take good care of your aligners. The easiest way to do this is to keep them in your mouth.
