What We Do

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry dealing primarily with irregularities of the teeth and their correction such as:

  • Crowded, crooked or protruding teeth
  • Bite problems
  • TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) symptoms
  • Unerupted teeth
  • Impacted teeth
  • Dental and skeletal imbalance
  • Cleft palate

On your first visit we will determine how we can best serve your needs. After a complimentary exam you will receive a written orthodontic evaluation explaining:

  • What treatment is needed
  • How long it should take
  • What it will cost
  • When treatment can begin

We will take the time to talk with you about all concerns, questions and details of your treatment plan. Diagnostic orthodontic records may be completed at the initial appointment or at a follow-up visit. This procedure takes approximately 30 minutes and provides invaluable information in determining the final treatment plan.  Financial arrangements will be discussed including: our no down payment low monthly installment plans, credit card payments, automatic debit and your insurance benefits.

Our Orthodontic Services include:

Orthodontic treatment (Braces) for young people and adults of all ages

v Silver Braces  For our younger patients, or for anyone who likes a splash of color, braces come in a variety of shades. Each month, at your regular visit, you can choose the color or colors your braces will be for that month. You can even plan your colors so that they coordinate with Halloween, Christmas and the seasons of the year. You have plenty of time to between visits plan next month's braces while wearing this month's colors - so come prepared!

v Clear (See Through) Braces Translucent clear braces are the most popular with adults. You have to be very close to someone to be able to see them. The newest clear braces have treatment times similar to those with metal braces.

v Titanium Brackets (Non-Allergic) Braces For those with nickel allergy that prefer an appearance most similar to traditional braces.

v Gold Braces  Gold braces are the newest addition to our line of brackets. They are stainless steel braces coated with 24 karat gold. They have the strength of metal, but blend in with the color of the teeth much better. That is because most teeth have a natural yellow tint. Gold braces are indicated when patients are allergic to nickel which is a minor component of metal braces and earring posts.

v Invisalign   One of the newest treatment methods, appliances WHICH DO NOT EMPLOY BRACES AT ALL, and one that Dr. Heller has been certified to provide, is the 'Invasilgn' system.

Invisalign is a state of-the-art alternative to braces that strengthens your teeth with a series of clear, customized, removable appliances called aligners.

Invisalign is not intended for children and is not appropriate for every adult. Your first step is to consult an align technology certified orthodontist and determine if your case would meet the treatment criteria. Both the upper and lower teeth can be treated at the same time, or either arch individually. Treatment times can be as few as 6 months or as many as 24 months.

To see if Invisalign is right for you, feel free to contact us by phone at (301) 654-5433 with any questions.

Dental and Facial Orthopedics to improve jaw relationship Used for growing patients to modify or redirect facial growth (see Removable Appliances)

Surgical (Orthognathic) Orthodontic Treatment for non-growing patients with significant discrepancy between the upper and lower jaws in one or more dimensions. Braces are placed prior to surgery to complete the initial alignment of the teeth. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon repositions the jaws and then tooth positions are finalized to optimize the bite.

Essix Retainers – clear plastic appliances that can be used to maintain tooth position or make very minor corrections.

Sports Mouth Guards – a must for both children and adults involved in contact sports. A mouth guard helps protect against injuries to the teeth and lips as well as providing a cushion for the jaw to prevent concussion

TMJ Treatment - bite splints in conjunction with other therapy are provided for patients with chronic or acute episodes of jaw and facial pain.

Appointments usually vary from 2 to 12 weeks intervals. In our effort to accommodate the active life styles, school and work schedules of our clients, appointments can be made in the early morning, at lunchtime, evenings and Saturdays. We pride ourselves in seeing you at your scheduled appointment time.
