Elastics are worn to move an individual tooth or group of teeth. Be sure that you understand how to attach the elastics before leaving the office.
If you are not sure please call immediately. DON'T GUESS. Wearing your elastics incorrectly can significantly lengthen your treatmentYour elastics are to be worn FULL TIME, all day and night, every day
and night in order to get the teeth into their appropriate positions. REMEMBER . . . Teeth are stupid! They do not realize that you are on vacation or it's a weekend. Be consistent with your elastic
wear. Wear them everyday!
You will receive several bags of elastics. Each bag has approximately 100 elastics. When you run low, please call the office and we will be delighted to mail you
more. Do not allow your elastic supply to run out before you call. If you wish, feel free to stop by the office and pick up more.
We want you to change your elastics at least twice a day.
Change your elastics at the following times:
After each meal.
After you brush and floss your teeth.
Before you go to bed and when you wake up.
Whenever one breaks . . . change BOTH of the elastics.
You may remove your elastics when you are eating or you may leave them in, but you must replace them after each meal!
Do not wear elastics from other orthodontic patients!
The elastics we have given you are specific for your particular orthodontic problem. They come in a number of sizes and strengths. If you use someone else's elastics, it could slow down
your progress or permanently damage your teeth.
